Data for Building Applications and Conducting Research on Jewish Heritage

Jewish heritage is found in thousands of sources: from the well-established collections of museums, libraries, and archives, to the lesser-known databases and records, community, individual and family archives, non-Jewish sources, digital projects. Engagement with Jewish culture and history demands that we gather these diverse sources, creatively combine them using semantic technology, and design optimal and formats for storytelling and experience. To support such endeavors, JHN reaches out to various destinations in the Jewish heritage world, analyses the state and scope of heritage collections there, and facilitates access to their content.

Network

Initiated in 2010 as Judaica Europeana, our content network has since then steadily grown to include more than 50 diverse Jewish sources:  museums, libraries, archives, and various collections within the Jewish community and beyond. In 2024, we expanded our efforts by launching the Jewish Culture and Heritage Hub of DP.LA. The collections, brought together by JHN, form a collaborative repository. This repository serves as a foundation for publishing, research, and engagement activities, always subject to our members’ permissions.
